BA in Classical Liberal Arts
Experience
I homeschooled a family of five girls for two years (my senior year of high school and my gap year) and had different tutoring jobs before and during that. I taught a high school literature class my freshman year of college and a folk dancing elective for 5-12. I also homeschooled a first grader this year.
Preschool-2, 5-6, some high school tutoring.
Mathematics, History, Literature, Science, Grammar, Rhetoric, Creative Writing, elementary music and art.
I was homeschooled using Ambleside online and will graduate this spring from New College Franklin, a Christian classical liberal arts college.
I’ve not taught in a Christian school, but I’ve worked in the nursery at church and always taught from a Christian perspective (I was blessed in working mostly with Christian families)
Faith
I was brought up in the faith from a young age, but took more personal ownership of it when I was 15 or 16. I want to love the Lord Jesus more and more, and become more and more willing to decrease as He increases in me. He has been incredibly faithful in my life and in the life of my family, and I’m incredibly thankful.
Philosophy of Education
I believe education is to train people up in a love of the truth, and to equip them to grow in virtue and knowledge by teaching them to desire and seek the good in all areas of their lives. A truly well-educated person is not just someone who can give accurate information, or demonstrate correct knowledge (though education does not exclude that) but someone who has been given or taught a love for learning, who has been made familiar with the great tradition and all that it has to offer, and who has been equipped with the thinking and reasoning skills to give a good account of what they believe to be true.
New College Franklin models its course of study off of the Trivium, Quadrivium, and the great books. I studied logic, composition (grammar) and rhetoric my first two years, and have studied the quadrivium and great books throughout. For middle and high school my family used Ambleside Online, which also introduces students to the great books and to part of the trivium.
