Byzantine Icon In-Class Presentations

Overview:

Today marks the conclusion of our Byzantine icon study. Over the past two weeks, students have carefully observed, sketched, and colored their own replicas of the 6th-century icon The Virgin and Child with Saints and Angels.

This class will serve as the rhetoric stage of their learning, where students will present their completed artworks to their classmates. Each student will share what they noticed about the icon and explain how they approached their replication. This exercise strengthens both their artistic skills and their oratory abilities, giving them confidence in narrating their work.

Students will:

• Present their completed icon replications to the class.
• Share what they observed in the original artwork and how they reflected those details in their own piece.
• Practice clear and confident oral narration, connecting their art to history and meaning.

**Parent Invitation: Parents are always welcome to join us on presentation days to observe and encourage their children’s final works as well as their growth in oratory skills. Our 3rd Grade art period is from 9:25-9:55am, Thursday 9/25. (Directly following morning assembly)
