Assignment Description
- Write a summary: Using your KWO, write a 3-paragraph summary of Harriett Tubman or Frederick Douglass. Do not refer back to the source text when writing the summary, using only the KWO.
- Dress it up: include and mark (underline) one “-ly adverb” and one “who/which clause” in each paragraph.
- Vocabulary: define abolitionist, chattel, underground and include in summary if possible.
- Create a Title: Create a title by repeating or reflecting 2 or 3 key words from the final sentence of the summary.
- Checklist: Follow the directions on the checklist on page 31 and check off each item as you complete it.
- Editor: Give the Letter to the Editor on page 25 and ask him/her to check your rough draft.
- Final Draft: Write your final draft making any changes that your editor suggested.
- Finished! Paperclip/staple the checklist, final draft, rough draft, and KWO together. Bring to class and be prepared to share with final draft with class.
