Assignment Description

•Discuss King George III biography.
•Conduct a small "debate" by dividing the class in half. One half will defend the divine right of a king to rule; the other half will defend the divine right of a people to rule themselves.
Questions/Concessions:
-If God chose the king, why should people obey him?
-If the king is unfair, what should people do? Obey, protest, or refuse?
-Who should judge the king’s actions? God only, or also the people?
-Work through the fact that kings can be sinful and make bad choices.
-----
-If God gives people the right to rule, who counts as “the people”?
-If most people vote for something wrong, should it still become law?
-When is it right to resist a government? Is violence permitted?
-Work through the fact that crowds can be sinful and make bad choices too.
