Assignment Description

Today in Literature we continued our reading of The Aeneid with Book 1 and focused on the question. "How does Aeneas respond when everything he loves is taken from him?" Students began by sharing their drawings and narrating what happened in the story, which helped us review the characters and events.

We then looked closely at moments in the text that show Aeneas feeling fear and sorrow but still choosing to lead and obey his destiny. Through discussion and movement around the room, students explored what that kind of endurance costs him, such as happiness, emotional honesty, personal desire, or control of his future, and connected those losses to Roman values like duty, fate, sacrifice, and self control.

Students finished by writing a short, structured paragraph using evidence from Book 1 to explain both how Aeneas responds to loss and what it costs him to do so.
