Assignment Description
Packet Due IN CLASS: January 7, 2026
If you were absent from class when the packet was given out, please print your own and complete on time!
Packet Description
In this assignment, you will complete the Unit 4 Art Observation Packet focused on Sugaring Off by Grandma Moses. This packet is designed to help you slow down, look closely, and practice careful observation of an artwork.
You will study how the artist uses texture and pattern, while also applying what you have already learned about color, line, shape, value, and composition. Through guided questions, you will observe details, analyze how the artwork is organized, and reflect on how visual elements work together to tell a story.
You will begin by recording your first impressions of the artwork. Then, you will move through observation and reflection questions that focus on surface, repetition, color, movement, and overall composition. The packet encourages thoughtful responses supported by visual evidence from the artwork.
This is an individual assignment and should be completed thoughtfully and in complete sentences.
The digital image of this painting is attached so you can zoom in and observe details closely.
Expectations
- Answer all questions thoughtfully and in complete sentences
- Use specific visual evidence from the artwork to support your responses
- Take your time observing before writing
- This is an individual assignment
Happy Observing!
-Mrs Micek
Note: Half a point will be subtracted for each week this packet is late. Make sure you complete & turn in on time!
Unit Packet Rubric
Each unit worksheet will be graded on a 4-point scale.
The focus is on completion, effort, and reflection. This rubric applies to every worksheet throughout the year.
- 4 points (Excellent Work): The worksheet is fully complete. All sections are thoughtfully answered, the sketch or visual portion is included, and strong effort is shown.
- 3 points (Good Work): The worksheet is mostly complete. One or two areas may be missing or rushed, but overall good effort is shown.
- 2 points (Partial Work): Several sections are incomplete or lack detail. Some effort is shown, but more thoroughness is needed.
- 1 point (Minimal Work): The worksheet is turned in but is very incomplete or rushed, with little effort shown.
- 0 points (No Work): The worksheet was not turned in.
A Note For Parents: This rubric emphasizes participation and engagement, not perfection. It helps your student practice observation, reflection, and creativity while holding them accountable for completing the work.
A Note For Students: Effort matters! Do your best to complete every section thoughtfully, even if you’re unsure of the “right” answer. Write down your ideas, make your sketch, and turn it in on time — that’s how you earn full credit.
