Phonogram Assessment

Use the attached document to assess your student’s knowledge of the sounds. Using the “72 Phonograms” sheet as a reference to ensure your student is saying correct sounds, have your student say the sound as you point to the letter. They should say all the sounds of that letter in the correct order. If they do not easily say all the sounds of that letter, circle it. After you are done, the circled letters will be what you practice the rest of the week. Watch the attached video for further explanation.

I would rotate pointing to the phonemes and having your student say the sound with you saying the sound and having them write it down from memory. Make sure they are writing each one correctly. You can help them remember the correct way by reminding them of the language for writing each. For example, the letter c is written starting at 2 on the clock below the dotted line, then curve up the opposite way we read and write to touch the dotted line, curve down and touch 10, curve down and touch 8, curve down and touch the baseline, and finally curve up and touch 4.

The language for writing each letter is written on the back of the phoneme cards. If you don't have your own set, I highly recommend getting some! If not, reference the images I posted in previous weeks when each letter was introduced.
