Assignment Description
Today in Ancient History, students learned about the fight between Egypt and the Hittites over the city of Kadesh and how rulers used reputation to stay in power. We reviewed key leaders such as Rameses II of Egypt and Hattusilis III of the Hittites. Students learned that the Battle of Kadesh ended in a draw, even though Rameses II claimed a great victory through monuments and carvings. We also discussed how Assyria was rising in the east through violent conquest.
Students then worked in groups on a creative project comparing “what the ruler wanted people to believe” versus “what really happened.” This helped students understand the difference between real power and propaganda.
