Assignment Description
•Read LoH pages 127 (Beginning with "The chaotic scene...") to 129 (ending with "...control of specialized knowledge."
•Discuss how Jackson's presidential leadership was both successful and self-contradictory. Was this type of organic synthesis a new way forward for the American presidency?
•Watch the video on the Battle of the Alamo to get a "feel" for the Alamo project.
•Alamo Project Description: Students are to create a physical model of the Alamo, made of any material, and of any scale. This model can represent the state of the Alamo before the War, during battle, or even its modern form. Alternate projects will also be accepted if connected to the Alamo, the battle, or the figures involved (Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, etc.). Ideas might include a replica of a Bowie Knife, an actual racoon-skin hat made by the student, etc. Whether a model or an alternate project, an oral presentation of 3-5 minutes must accompany the project, describing its historical value, specifically its connection to the idea(s) of manifest destiny, the development of American culture, or its impact on present-day America. The presentation may consist of written material or another form of presenting (slideshow, posterboard, etc.). Ideas for the project must be submitted by Monday, November 17 for approval.
