Assignment Description
In this lesson, students explore what happens between The Iliad and The Odyssey, tracing the fates of key Greek and Trojan figures after the fall of Troy and examining how Homer’s two epics connect thematically. Through storytelling, and a matching activity on the heroes’ and heroines’ fates, students discover how the glory and tragedy of war give way to the longing and endurance of homecoming. The class ends with a reflective discussion on why Homer chose to end The Iliad with loss and begin The Odyssey with waiting—inviting students to consider what true heroism looks like beyond battle.
