Assignment Description

•Read: LoH pgs. 25-27
•Narrate this excerpt, focusing on the distinctions between the colonies' motivations for existing and how successful they were. Provide clear examples of each.
•Watch/Listen to "The 13 Colonies Song" set to the tune of Yankee Doodle, via the provided YouTube link.
•Discuss:
1.) Why did each colony have a slightly different spiritual/Christian/religious purpose?
2.) Which colonies were most similar, and which were most different?
3.) What is a "utopia" and how were the colonies a "disproving ground" for them?
4.) How did the highly individualistic nature of the colonies work out to their own benefit?
•Mapping: Use the uploaded map (either print or have student copy on their own) to label the location of what would (eventually) be the thirteen established colonies. Use the map on pg. 34 as a guide.
