Assignment Description

Today in Art Class:

We explored one of the most important building blocks of art- the line.

Students practiced different types of lines (straight, curved, zigzag, spiral, dashed, etc.) and learned that lines create shapes, and shapes become the subjects of our compositions.

We talked about how literally anything we draw can be broken down into simple shapes.

Students then used their worksheets to practice a variety of lines and began thinking about all the different shapes lines can make.

** For Students Who Were Absent:

  1. Please print the attached worksheet and complete the line practice on the front.
  • Be sure to fill in each type of line.
  • In the “bonus lines” area, try combining line types (ex: a zigzag that turns into a wave, or a dashed spiral).
  1. On the back of the worksheet, draw as many shapes as you can think of — circles, triangles, squares, stars, hearts, diamonds, etc. This helps you see how lines form shapes.
  2. Optional: Choose 2–3 shapes and combine them into a simple picture (example: triangle + square = a house).

Bring your completed worksheet back to class so we can continue building on what you’ve learned!
