Assignment Description

This week in history, we will be learning about the beginnings of Chinese civilization along the Yellow River. Students will read about Yu the Great, who was remembered for taming the floods and ruling with wisdom and service. We’ll compare this model of kingship with earlier rulers in Mesopotamia and Egypt, asking: What truly makes a good ruler? Through map work, narration, and a lively role-play called the “King’s Council,” students will practice seeing how geography, virtue, and power shaped the earliest dynasties.
