Faith & Philosophy
I, Kellie, was raised super christian (non denominational.) Zack was raised not in the church. He went to catholic school in elementary. He went to Belmont for college where he took Bible classes that actually turned him away from the Lord and religion. Fast forward to us having kids we knew we wanted to raise them in the church and learning about Jesus. We tried many churches, but always were called to pick up crying kids in the nursery within five minutes. We stopped going to church after a few times and decided it wasn't important. (wrong decision) December 2023 we both felt called to try again and I'm so glad we did. We found our home church, Conduit in Franklin, and have made teaching our kids about Jesus our number one goal. He is the center of our home and our parenting and I'm so thankful for it. We consider ourselves non-denominational christians with a personal relationship with Jesus. We attend weekly and the big kids go to youth group on Wednesday nights.
I thought I wanted a more laid back approach, but have learned I crave an educational challenge for the kids at their ages now. I like that Saint's is more than education, but teaches about Jesus and core moral values as well. I hope for a community of like minded folks.
Prayer! Prayer daily and throughout the day. We read the Bible together daily and the kids work through Awana books to memorize verses. I have the Good and Beautiful Bible curriculum for 5th grade and will sometimes pull from there too.
Socially, I hope they find a great group of friends. Eden is leaving a best friend behind at FLA and I hope she finds her new person. Oakley has yet to find a friend(s) she connects with and I pray she finds that here. Lincoln is leaving behind a few great guy friends he met so I also hope he can connect with some here. He is a more sensitive boy and not so into sports or normal boy things, so finding a great connection has been hard for him. Livvie makes friends very easily so I feel pretty confident she will find her group. Spiritually, I hope they continue to learn about the Bible. Academically, I hope they are challenged. I hope they are held to some accountability to do their best and finish their work. (this is very much lacking at FLA.)
I don't have a deep understanding of Classical, honestly. I toured Classical Conversations with Brandi Bartley and sat in for the day. From that, my understanding is there is a lot of memorization and repetition.
Our philosophy is to raise kind, respectful, kids that have a love for Jesus and have complete integrity.
Students (4)
Eden Thompson 6th Grade → 7th
I love the community, but do not like the lack of structure. I also dislike the lack of discipline both socially and educationally.
Eden is effervescent! She loves attention, loves sparkle pants and pink lipstick. She likes to make people laugh and wants everyone to be her friend. She makes friends so quickly and immediately is their best friend. She loves her farm animals, mostly her chickens. She loves nature and getting dirty. She is 12 and has started thinking and talking about boys. I am praying how to navigate this! She is such a sweet soul and does a great job at staying positive. The oldest of four, she is a natural born leader. She LOVES reading and reads almost a book a day. (Nancy Drew, Goosebumps, Wing Feather Saga, etc.)
Eden is very good at math. She struggles with reading comprehension in a testing situation. She has a hard time staying focused and gets distracted easily. She doesn't seem to care if she gets something wrong and things in general are not very important to her. Her work ethic is great if she is interested and terrible if she is not. It is something we are definitely working on. It is important not to let a teacher down so she definitely tries her hardest for another over me, her mom.
Eden rarely needs it and her discipline is being removed from the fun. She learns pretty quickly and bad behavior is very rare for her.
Socially, she is a bit immature for her age. She has a short attention span and a hard time focusing.
Oakley Thompson 6th Grade → 7th
All the same reasons given on Eden's.
Oakley is responsible, very mature for her age, and very quiet. She is an observer and doesn't make friends easily. She takes time to trust someone (adult or peer) before she opens up. Once you are in and she trusts you she is hilarious. She is personable and strives for perfection. She is very clean and organized and a wise old soul. She loves crafts, playing Barbies with her little sis, and loves dogs.
Oakley is so smart. Her reading comprehension and writing skills have always been well above her level. She learns quickly and is very diligent. She loves to be challenged and loves affirmation when she performs well. She is very responsible and does not like when plans change. She likes knowing what to expect and sees the world as black and white. She is a big rule follower.
Oakley is my most challenging with it comes to back talk. She earns chores mostly has discipline and we are prayerfully still trying to find what works for her as far as discipline. She is an angel to her peers and teachers and has a sharp tongue with her siblings and family.
Oakley is very shy and does not like change. She is a hard worker and is very honest. She enjoys learning and being challenged
Lincoln Thompson 3rd Grade → 4th
The same reasons as Eden.
Lincoln is sensitive, kind, and wants to fit in. He is such a good boy with a lot of patience with three sisters. He does not like to make mistakes and is very hard on himself. He is very respectful and a good attentive friend. He loves nature, legos, and inventing things.
Lincoln loves learning and really enjoyed school. He is diligent and has an amazing work ethic. He loves science, history, and math.
Lincoln rarely requires discipline and is such a good, respectful boy.
He is a bit socially awkward. Has a hard time fitting in and wants to be liked by his peers.
Livia June (Livvie) 2nd Grade → 3rd
The same reasons on Eden's.
Livvie is so sweet, quiet, and funny. She is an observer at first and then opens up after a bit. She loves Barbies, her farm animals, and crafting. She loves making friends and is very sweet and mature for her age.
She likes to learn. She loves cursive, spelling, and reading. She has a great work ethic and enjoys school work.
She is the youngest of four and never requires it. I know this sounds made up, but she literally is the most respectful child I've ever known. She is so respectful and wants to please.
She is very quiet and doesn't like new situations. She will be an observer for a bit, but will open up when she is comfortable.
