Faith & Philosophy

Peter and I both grew up in Christian homes and came to know Jesus at young ages. I (Katie) became a believer when I was 8 but didn't fully surrender until I was a senior in high school. Peter became a became a believer at 14. We both had life changing experiences to realize our *need* for a savior when we were in our 20s. I think there is huge difference between knowing and believing in who Jesus is and realizing our great need for him every day.

Our 4 children had previously been at Agathos Classical School for 5 years (this is our first year homeschooling!) We loved our time at Agathos and value classical education, but realize how important family time is for developing children and for the peace of our home. We can't think of a better fit to have excellent classical education in a tutorial style that emphasizes classical christian curriculum and instruction but allows for more family time.

We have consistent morning family devotionals which turn into great discussions about who God is and what His word says. We also practice Sabbath every Saturday and a have Shabbat dinner every Friday night. Although those are a few intentional things we practice, our faith daily impacts how we serve others and how we parent our children (through discipline, exposure to movies, internet, etc.).

We would love for our children to continue their love of learning in a christian classical environment while being with other christian families. Since homeschooling for the first time this year, we appreciate partnering with a tutorial of like-minded teachers and students for the sharpening of our children and academic accountability.

We have a fairly good understanding of the Christian classical model since attending Agathos for 5 years. We love the focus on a biblical worldview, virtue development and prioritizing the classics (Latin, penmenship, and classical literature to name a few examples.) with the goal to instruct children how to think critically and using the Trivium to focus instruction.

Our parenting philosophy lends more towards authoritative. Our goals are to provide a loving, warm home which points our children to Christ while having clear, firm boundaries built on biblical principles.

Students (4)

William Goodwin 8th Grade 9th

Current School
Homeschool and Q Class tutorial

We would love to have our children all at the same tutorial.

William is a great young man and we are so proud of the man he is becoming! He is engaging, inquisitive and a great friend. He is generous to others and respectful. He loves to hunt, fish, play soccer and travel to Alaska.

William enjoys literature and is an avid reader. He is very thorough in his work and takes pride in doing things with excellence. Because he has been a part of classical school for so long, he understands the rhythm of taking notes and understanding the time it takes to excel academically.

William is a "first-born" in every way. He is typically very respectful and even when he gets emotional he calms down and apologizes.

Mary Katherine Goodwin 6th Grade 7th

Current School
Homeschool

I would like all of our children to attend the same tutorial.

Mary Katherine is so special! She values friendships, family and her cat! She loves anything in which she can utilize her creativity (watercolor painting, pottery, making jewelry, and baking). She enjoys outdoor adventures as well such as hiking, swimming and biking.

Mary Katherine is naturally a great student. School has always been relatively easy for her and she is excellent at time management. She really enjoys projects in which she can be creative and loves to read.

Typically she is respectful and repentant.

Elizabeth Goodwin 4th Grade 5th

I would like all of our children to attend the same tutorial.

Elizabeth is delightful! She is truly a sweet soul and a loving friend. She is a "stop and smell the roses" kind of girl and is always up for fun! She enjoys horses and horseback riding, playing with her dolls, travel, and baking.

Elizabeth loves science and has recently found joy in reading and math fractions. She is a very diligent, hard working student.

Typically very respectfully and repentant.

Elizabeth was diagnosed with mild dyslexia almost 3 years ago. She has had a reading tutor twice weekly for the past 3 years. She works very hard to improve her reading abilities.
