Faith & Philosophy

Both of us grew up going to church and both of us came to faith at a young age. We wholeheartedly believe that the following Christ is more than just accumulating knowledge but requires living out our faith on a daily basis and making disciples along the way, which has led us to be active in our church as well as going on various mission trips around the world. As parents, our prayer is to not just raise our kids in the church but to also raise them in Christ so that their faith will be their own.

We love the classical model of teaching and have been wanting more flexibility in our schooling that homeschooling offers.

Worship music and prayer are things that we do as a family (meal times, bedtime, and worship music throughout our day). We aim to disciple when correction/discipline is needed.

Our goal is that, with the flexibility of homeschooling, to be able to dig deep into curriculum in shorter "sit down" periods while also having the time to go out and get hands on and real life experiences. Spiritually, we want our kids faith to be their own and to strive for godliness while pursuing a relationship with Christ. Socially, we want to raise our kids in the truth that we are all image bearers to the one true God and that we are to respect and love one another with grace and truth. And to interact with others with confidence, patience, love, and having a listening ear/heart.

It is a more literature based approach, focusing on critical thinking, memorization, logic, and communication while being rooted in a Biblical worldview.

We focus on independence, wanting our boys to be able to do hard things, work hard, learn well, and having a strong Biblical foundation.

Alexander Filer Kindergarten 1st

Current School
Zion Christian Academy

We have loved our time at Zion, but the distance from our home to school has become a bit of a challenge and we want more hands-on/real life experiences that we currently don't have a a lot of margin for.

Alex is a very gentle and fun boy. He has a very organized and strategic mindset but also loves to have fun and has a great imagination. He loves to figure out puzzles, is a great artist, and loves music and sports.

Alex loves to learn! He is currently in the first stages of reading and he is curious and eager to read. He has decent focus while doing homework and gets a little frustrated when he can't understand/figure things out right away. But he is great about getting his homework done and has a good attitude when he's told that its time for homework.

Alex responds well to discipline. He does get a little bashful when he is corrected and might withdrawal for a few minutes as we believe he is an internal processor and has to digest what he has done. He is quick to apologize to any offense
