Faith & Philosophy

My faith experience started when I was very young, being saved at 8 years old, but has grown significantly since then. I grew up nondenominational, and my husband grew up catholic, but after he was saved shortly after we were married, we decided to raise our kids as nondenominational Christians. Our faith in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior is what shapes our marriage and household, and we hope and pray that our children grow up knowing and seeking God their entire lives.

Saints Academy is the perfect blend of school/homeschool. I want Myra to have friends and experience learning amongst her peers, but I also want to have the opportunity to walk closely alongside her and teach her myself. I feel called to homeschool, but I also feel called to surrender my kids to The Lord, and i believe God led me to Saints Classical in order to do both. I also love the Classical model of education. I went to a Classical charter school in Colorado, and it gave me a love of critical thinking and learning overall. The thing that was missing from the school i grew up in was the foundation of The Bible. I love that Saints Classical incorporates God into the curriculum, and I am so excited to see Myra learn about God in the context of all other learning, and not just in her home and at sunday school.

The most prominent way we incorporate our faith into everyday is through the way we discipline. We try to always point our kids toward their Savior when they sin. Another way we incorporate God is through prayer before meals and throughout the day. We want our kids to notice that God is in everything, and want them to see His love through us as their parents. We also love to read biblically based books to the kids, so that the stories of The Bible will be painted in their minds at young ages.

I hope and pray that Myra will gain not only an amazing education, but deep lasting friendships through Saints Classical. Homeschooling alone doesn't provide the experience of learning amongst your peers, and I think that is one of the most wonderful parts of school. I also want Myra to see other people’s faith to bolster her own. A community of fellow believers is so important in our walk with Christ, and I want Myra to experience that at a young age. I also hope that the curriculum is something that I can easily teach to Myra at home and follow with confidence. Homeschooling is a huge learning curve for me, and I want to give Myra the best I can give when she is learning at home.

As I went to a classical charter academy, I am very familiar with that model of teaching. I do believe what was missing from my schooling was a biblical Christian base. The part of the classical model that I think is most beneficial in the younger years is the learning to read and write with phonics. That has helped me in my life long learning immensely. I also love the emphasis put on memorization through this model.

First and foremost our parenting philosophy is to raise our kids to serve God and expand His kingdom, trying our best to lead by example. After that, it is to love our kids and raise them to be confident, well regulated human beings who work hard and live life with the fruits of the spirit well ingrained in them.

Myra Bruce Kindergarten 1st

Myra is extremely intelligent. She is also very social. She loves to talk, ask questions, and gain understanding of how the world works and why people do what they do. She loves to listen to audiobooks like magic treehouse because they teach her about history, and she gets so excited to tell everyone about what she has learned. She also loves to cook and color and play outside. She is extremely active and does gymnastics. She loves to go on bike rides and play with friends at the park. Making new friends is something shes very good at. She also loves to go to Sunday school and gets so excited every Sunday to go do crafts, play games, and worship.

Myra loves math more than anything, but she also loves to listen to books. Once she can read I am sure she will be enthralled with it. She does hooked on phonics right now and enjoys the challenge, especially concerning mathematics. She works extremely hard and doesn’t shy away from a challenge. Overall I would say she is very intrinsically motivated.

Myra wants so badly to please The Lord. When she is disciplined she understands what she did was sinful and that if she repents she will always be forgiven. She is always quick to apologize to others, and strives to do the right thing.
