Faith & Philosophy

I grew up in a Christian family, but didn’t truly understand why Jesus died on the cross until my freshman year in college. I truly came to understand that he died so that all my sins (past, present, and future) could be nailed to the cross with him and forgiven forever. Since then I have been seeking to live my life through the grace of God and to the glory of God. My husband came to know Jesus in middle school and has also sought to live his life for the glory of God ever since.

We have been involved in homeschool tutorials in Franklin for several years, but have recently participated in a church plant in North Columbia. We are very interested in beginning to move more of our lives in the Spring Hill/Columbia area, not only as a means of outreach but all as a way to simplify our life.

My daughter and I try to do a Bible reading plan together every morning on her schooling at home days. We also are working through systematic theology and reading the Westminster catechism as a family most evenings after dinner. So days we find ourselves too busy for these routines, but we are seeking to be faithful to them without becoming legalistic. We also seek to pray together as a family daily. For sure at meals but also after our evening reading.

Ivy loves going to her current tutorial because she loves spending time with her friends! I am ready for her to have a bit more of an academic challenge as we move towards high school. But I also need the support and partnership of a program like Saint Classical to help me along the way as a homeschool parent. I hope that she can have influences outside of me that will pus her to her full potential academically, spiritually and socially.

I will admit I don’t have any experience with classical education. I have heard a lot of about it and its distinctives, but I have no experience teaching in a classical model. As a christian school my understanding is that all things would be taught and modeled from a Christian worldview with the Bible as our ultimate guide in how to raise these children up.

My parenting philosophy is that we have been gifted these children as an inheritance from the Lord. He has entrusted them to us to raise and shepherd them into him, their God. We have taught to use biblical principles in our understanding of parenting, our discipline, and our instruction. We believe that everything we and they need for life and godliness is found in His word.

Ivy needs more of an academic challenge. Also I feel insecure about the future of upper campus at Vine.

Ivy has two older brothers so she has always been able to hold her own. She is a perfect blend of sweet and sassy. She enjoys art, crafts, music and volleyball. She also enjoys playing video games with friends.

Ivy has always been self motivated when it comes to school. Often times she would work on her school work in the evening or get started on her work early in the morning knowing that as soon as she gets her work done she can can have the freedom to decide what she would like to do. I think her favorite subject is literature, she really enjoys reading.

No

She will usually be angry at first. We encourage her to take some time to cool down, journal, and then come back to us when we can all talk in a level headed way.

Not that I can think of!
